Scouting for Food in Bluemont: Pick up November 11, 2017

Scouting for Food, Arlington, VA
Pick up on Saturday, November 11, 2017
Please leave all bags outside by 9 AM

Greetings, Neighbors!  Since 1988, the Boy Scouts of America have run an annual food drive to help feed the needy in the Washington area.  Boy Scout Troop 648 (Arlington Forest United Methodist Church) will pick up in this neighborhood.

“Scouting for Food” is the largest food drive in the Washington area.

The food you donate goes directly to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).  AFAC provides supplemental groceries to Arlington families and individuals in need.  AFAC is currently serving more than 2,200 families every week.  In 2016, our area’s scouts collected more than 52,000 pounds of non-perishable food for AFAC!

STEP 1:  Place your non-perishable donations in the bag that was provided on November 4.
AFAC’s most needed items are:

  • Canned soups (low sodium)
  • Canned proteins (low sodium tuna, chicken, salmon)
  • Canned tomato products (low sodium diced, sauce, or paste)
  • Peanut butter in plastic jars
  • Canned fruit (lower-sugar/light syrup)

STEP 2:  Place the bag of donations on your front porch late Friday evening or early Saturday morning, November 11, 2017.  Scouts will return Saturday morning, starting 9 AM to collect donations.  Scouts will be in pairs, in uniform, and accompanied by parents in automobiles.

We will not be knocking on your door to solicit contributions. If your donation is not picked up by noon, please send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or text to (703)283-2100 and we will arrange to collect your donation and take it to AFAC.

Thank you for your support!
